Àlex Ollé, director of this 120th anniversary production of LA BOHÈME, talks of his inspiration to set his production in the suburbs of a modern European city.
Ollé opens this interview by tracing back this journey with opera to 1995 (to ATLÁNTIDA, the first production of La Fura des Baus in Barcelona) and the subsequent to the first ‘big break’ offered by Gerard Mortier with a production of THE DAMNATION OF FAUST. Since then, Ollé work has been in much demand across the operatic world. He explains why his bohemians in the production are not set in 19th century Paris but a 21st century high-rise suburb of a European, perhaps even an Italian city.
