Marfa, who has been summoned to Prince Golitsin, a minion of the Czarevna Sophia, foretells his forthcoming disgrace and exile. The frightened Golitsin gives an order to have Marfa drowned.

The Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre has for the first time in its history turned to the monumental historical canvas created by Mussorgsky thereby filling the gaps in the contemporary Russian music theatre repertoire – this is the first production of KHOVANSHCHINA in Russia in the past ten years.
