Director Jean Bellorini introduces his production of LA CENERENTOLA as the technicians of the Opera de Lille put the finishing touches to a set which flies in all directions.
LA CENERENTOLA is above all for Bellorini an opera about the triumph of goodness. Although this might seems anachronistic in 2016, Bellorini takes delight in giving a contemporary twist to this much-loved fable. While Cinderella herself sees the complexity of the world, the others characters around rush headlong into a sort of frenetic madness; the image is strong in the production of cyclists pedaling like mad and going nowhere and will resonate with contemporary audiences. This madness is joyously crafted by Rossini and, in Bellorini’s hands, we find glorious entertainment and a faithful representation of the composer’s positive message about the triumph of Good in a crazy world.
