Komische Oper | YEVGENIY ONEGIN - final scene

‘One of the greatest unhappy love stories of operatic literature’ says director, Barrie Kosky, about YEVGENIY ONEGIN. He directed a new production of the Tshaikovsky opera at the Komische Oper Berlin in January 2016.

Kosky’s production of YEVGENIY ONEGIN was a huge popular success at the Komische Oper Berlin and when streamed in full during the premiere night on THE OPERA PLATFORM last year.  This closing scene of the opera shows the last encounter between Tatyana (Asmik Grigorian) and Onegin (Günter Papendell). Tatyana, now married to Prince Gremin, reflects on how close to happiness she and Onegin once were but says firmly that she will remain faithful to her husband. She confesses that she still loves Onegin before he leaves in despair.
