Kullervo: Interview with choreographer Tero Saarinen

Finnish National Opera | Tero Saarinen on choreographing Kullervo

Intuition and good timing – for the Finnish choreographer and dancer Tero Saarinen, KULLERVO is a universal symbol for the quest to find oneself and one’s place in the world.

The Finn Tero Saarinen has won international acclaim for his natural and intuitive choreography. Guided by the epic music Jean Sibelius composed for KULLERVO, Saarinen conveys the legend from Finland’s KALEVALA through the bodies of his dancers. This unique performance builds on the archaic animal character of humankind.
