A preview of Den Norske Opera and Ballet’s newly commissioned opera. Step into the year 2118, when man has created an improved version of the species…
Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin and British author Mark Ravenhill have created a new opera combining a meeting between ‘the old’ and ‘the new’ human with a love story and a fable about our innate fear of change.
Rolf Wallin is one of Scandinavia’s leading contemporary composers, whose works are continuously being commissioned and performed by various ensembles in Norway and abroad. His background ranges from jazz, avantgarde rock and early music, to a traditional classical training. Mark Ravenhill is a British actor, writer and author, whose works include the highly praised play Shopping and Fucking. Elysium is directed by David Poutney, with remarkable set designed by Leslie Travers.
