The Wiener Staatsoper is considered one of the most important opera houses in the world, and is certainly the house with the largest repertoire. The season goes from September until June and offers over 300 performances of more than 60 different opera and ballet works. The artistic cornerstone of the opera house consists of the firmly committed ensemble of singers (around 45 soloists), the ballet ensemble (the Wiener Staatsballett with around 80 dancers in the Wiener Staatsoper), the orchestra whose members are recruited from the Vienna Philharmonic, the choir and the stage orchestra. There are also international guest singers, conductors and dancers. In total, around 950 fixed employees, including stage technicians, management and administration work in the house on the ring. Since 1st September 2010, Dominique Meyer is the Director while Manuel Legris is the Director of the Wiener Staatsballett. A central concern of management is the constant care and renewal of the opera house’s repertoire, as well as a systematic repertoire expansion through various premieres.
