Mozart’s comedy of errors COSÌ FAN TUTTE is the highlight at the Archevêché stage in Aix-en-Provence during the 2016 opera festival. Director Christophe Honoré sets the opera in Ethiopia during the Italian occupation in the 1930s, extending the lighthearted story with a commentary on racism and fascism.
Every year since 1948, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence has been boasting a programme of great variety: opera productions, Mozart works, major creations, rediscovery of Baroque masterpieces, chamber orchestra operas and exceptional series of concerts. With this diversity, it caters for an ever growing enthusiastic audience and was awarded “Best festival of the year” by the International opera awards 2014.
The Festival has opened resolutely new horizons in the domains of artistic creation by fostering young talents coming from all around the world, thanks to its Académie. It thus wishes to see its opera productions thrive in our contemporary world and travel widely to prestigious national and international venues.
Who was Claude Debussy, this great musician of the Fin de siècle and the composer of the opera PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE? The Festival d’Aix-en Provence presents his life, times and his works in comic strip form.
Renowned for its artistic excellence, the Festival d’Aix has over the last years developed into a unique place where innovation is the key word: education and audience innovation, artistic innovation, as well as cultural innovation with a unique network of international collaborations.
