Wagner’s mighty Ring-Cycle is the culmination of the greatest artistic achievements ever created by human hands: the counterpart opera against the tragic trilogy of the Greek theater of Antiquity.
The epic drama is modeled as part of a fairytale-allegorical myth conceived by Wagner magnifying the basic problems and the fundamental questions of humanity. It involves primarily Gods, giants, dwarves and mythical creatures, who over the course of the tetralogy, shift towards the human world. In the last part, the GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG ("Twilight of the Gods") the battle for power rages between the principles of love and greed, leading to the climax where good prevails. In the final world conflagration, the Gods also go down, so that all of mankind can survive with the hope of a better future.
It is a privilege, to be able to hear the Ring from the orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper being conducted for the first time by Sir Simon Rattle in Vienna. The cast of brilliant Wagner singers is being headed by Evelyn Herlizius and Stephen Gould, currently two leading opera singers.
